FromeFM Crowdfunding Quiz Night launch

Over 80 people joined FromeFM at the Awesome Studio in Frome for a fun quiz night last Saturday. Tickets, bar and CD sales, a sponsor covering the venue hire, plus the winning team donating their prize winnings back to us, resulted in about £700 being raised for the FromeFM studio upgrade.

History of FromeFM

FromeFM started life as a small project back in 2005 then in 2008 FromeFM was established by Frome Community Productions CIC and gained its FM license in 2012, moving the studio into the Town Hall in 2017.

Over this time, our 30 year old analogue equipment has been quietly ageing and becoming increasingly unreliable.  With the retirement from FromeFM of Andrew Bryant, a retired BBC engineer, who has been able to maintain the mixing desk, this has added urgency to the need to upgrade our core equipment to ensure that we can stay on air.

How much do we need?

Our members fees pay mostly pay for our operating costs of around £16,000 a year for rent, utilities, licences and insurance. Money for new equipment has to come from other sources - such as grants , bequests and crowdfunding.

Our campaign was kick-started through an extremely generous donation of £2,500 from Patrick Moss, one of our members. This was boosted by a Community grant from Frome Town Council of £563 in March 2026.

When we reach £10,000, we can replace our outdated analogue broadcast mixing desk with a modern digital one, install a digital LAN network with all the necessary switches, computer hardware, and software.

With £15,000, we’ll be able to go even further, upgrading most of our remaining aging equipment, improving our studio furniture and desks, and creating a better working environment.
